Problem:
People may be forgetful, others may be thieves; this
product helps with both. In college for
instance, even with a labeled lanyard or wallet, students or faculty may lose
their ID cards. Furthermore, those at
work may lose their ID as well, or even a credit card or license. Unfortunately, on the other hand, crimes of
thievery will unfortunately continue to be committed, especially the theft of
wallets and/or purses.
Idea Generation:
A product that can simply track these plastic cards,
which would let the owner know where the card is located, which could also
include the location of the wallet, and finally a purse! The card (whether it be an ID, credit card,
license, etc) would slide into a clear plastic sleeve, which has a GPS chip
within it. The sleeve would be extremely
thin and barely visible to allow the card to still easily fit into the wallet
sleeve.
Idea Screening:
I would create a survey to determine the demand for the
product. The questions of the survey
would simply gear towards how often people lose their credit cards, college
ID’s, licenses, etc. Should the demand seem high enough, I would then execute a free trial.
Business Analysis:
Some GPS systems use a beeper to locate the missing
object, some use a website on a computer, and others have notifications sent to
a cell phone through an app or a text message.
The signal in the chip is sent through a satellite to one of these
means of communication. Since the method
of tracking used is a chip, no batteries would be needed. (Assuming the
tracking information would be located within a website or sent to the owner’s
cell phone.)
Chips have been inserted in pets and products, and can
cost as low as ten dollars. Added to the
price of a plastic sleeve, the cost of the product would not be more than
that. If the owner would like messages
sent to their phone, a small extra charge would be possible.
Development:
As stated earlier, a minuscule chip would be embedded
into a clear sleeve. The tracker chip
can then be tracked through a satellite, and the information would be sent to a
web site or cell phone.
Test marketing:
The product would be tested by:
-college
students (who must carry college ID’s)
-government
employees (who must carry an ID card at all times)
-drivers
of all ages (who need a license)
-teens
(who have recently gotten their license)
-frequent
shoppers (who use credit cards often)
Commercialization:
The product would be
marketed through television commercial and a Facebook ad.
